Maruyama Sensei’s Seminar will take place at the Kendal Judo Club (www.kendaljudoclub.co.uk). Kendal is a small town just outside of the Lake District National Park in north west England, just south of the border with Scotland. As the Lake District is a popular tourist destination it is well served by travel links of various sorts, hire cars are also easily available. The seminar venue is not located within the Lake Disrtrict National Park itself, but you may wish to take advantage of the accommodation on offer within the park as it is a very beautiful place where there is a lot to see and do.
The nearest airports are Manchester and Liverpool, of these Manchester is probably the best one to fly to as it has a direct rail link with Windermere and Kendal.
Kendal is located just off of the M6, leave the motorway at Junction 36 and follow signs for Kendal. The address of the dojo is: Parkside Business Park, Parkside Road, Kendal, Cumbria LA9 7EN
The Lake District is well served by rail links via the west coast mainline and the journey time from London can be as little as 3 hours. Most rail journeys require you to change at Oxenholme Station to take the Transpennine Express to Kendal. However a direct train to Kendal from Manchester is possible.
The Lake District is a very popular tourist destination so there are lots of options available for accommodation, we would encourage you to book early to get the best deals. Accommodation in the town of Kendal is slightly cheaper than in the Lake District National Park and will be closer to the dojo, but if you can afford it there are many wonderful places to stay within the park, not all of them are hotels and B&Bs, there are cheaper alternatives such as youth hostels that you can try.
We can offer up to 40 places for people to stay at the dojo dormitory for only £20 per person per night including breakfast.
To book your accommodation in the dojo please visit this page (link coming soon).
If the places in the dojo are all filled then the next cheapest place to stay in Kendal is the Kendal Hostel. If you book accommodation in the dojo please note it will be for the night before you train, so if you train on all three days then your accommodation will be for 7th July-9th July. Other arrangements can be made by the dojo directly.
Staying in the dojo will almost certainly be the cheapest accommodation option you will find.
Self Catering Cottages
If you are travelling in a group then self catering holiday cottages may be a good option for accommodation, some good links are:
Bed & Breakfasts
There are also lots of options for B&Bs in the area:
There are also many excellent hotels in the area, they are usually more expensive than self-catering cottages or B&Bs but not always:
Youth Hostels and Camping
Probably the cheapest accommodation is to be found in the local youth hostels. There are several YHA buildings near the seminar venue which have dormitories. There are also many camp sites.
